Children are the best subjects to have in front of your camera. Even when they pull funny faces, they still look amazingly good. They never really pose ; they just stay true to their own individuality.

Hence the pictures of these ubercute siblings. I always promise the moms and dads at least 10 good shots and a collage but was mom Sandy in for a treat ! Her kids are masters at 'posing' and really worked with me. Super easy and fun. Even though it was hot as hell ; they kept on smiling and running for us.

Nicki & Hicham

 It may have taken Nicki and Hicham 8 years to tie the knot but their wedding will certainly be worth the wait. To share their happiness and tell their friends and family to save the date, they agreed to be my first ever couple to shoot their engagement.

Between the surprise 'will you marry me please Nicki' and the wedding next year, months of preparation will precede ; from bridal fittings to choosing a location, a wedding theme, caterers and who to pick as best man and maid of honour. 

Hicham and Nicki picked me to capture all these fine moments of preparation and I'm thrilled to bits to be part of all this beauty  and TLC. The happy couple just can't wait to finally count down to June 6th 2015, when friends and family will gather and celebrate their nuptials.  I will not be their main wedding photographer - I am married to Nicki's dad so my place is beside him that day - but I will have some camera equipment somewhere up my sleeve to keep some visual memories for the next generation to come.

ben je verloofd ? Of wil jij je vriendin ten huwelijk vragen ? Een mooie foto aan dat moment is een geweldige herinnering voor later. Niet enkel jullie grote dag is belangrijk, maar ook de periode toen jullie beslisten samen door het leven te gaan.

Vele verliefde mensen gingen jullie al voor ; aan de enthousiaste reacties achteraf, hebben ze geen moment spijt gehad van dit initiatief. Stuur een berichtje voor meer info hieronder bij de comments, onderaan deze pagina.

I really had fun with this final assignment for this years portfolio for school ; we had to take pictures that had a) an extreme short shutter speed b) an extreme long shutter speed.

Most of us students choose to take the highway shots (think long rays of red and white lights) but I waited patiently for our local (controversial*) fair to get started. I had decided to have a late dinner in that neighbourhood, after searching for times and info on when the sun would set on June 7th.
So, when we finished our desserts and Irish coffees and agreed it would be dark enough outside, my family tagged along, equipped with photobag and tripod, to 'celebrate' my last obstacle to finally finish my portfolio of 2014.

Now I only needed to set up camera & tripod and use the following settings : low ISO number, high f (diaphragm) number and long shutter speed ..

The fun part was when my family waited impatiently to see what each frame would give, a little treat,  excited like only kids can be !
The colors are amazing, don't you think ? I'm really glad with this result ; hopefully my teacher will think the same !

Ik heb ontzettend genoten van deze laatste opdracht die ik nog moest maken voor mijn portfolio voor school. Eén van de opdrachten was foto's maken met een zeer korte en een extreem lange sluitertijd.

Voor die laatste kozen de meeste studenten de snelweg uit met als resultaat beelden met van die lange rode en witte lichtslierten.

Maar toen bedacht ik me dat ik nog tijdig foto's zou kunnen maken van onze beruchte Sinksenfoor, die net dit Pinksterweekend startte. 

We koppelden het nuttige aan het aangename en ik reserveerde voor een laat avonddineetje ergens in de buurt en wachtte geduldig tot de zon zou gaan ondergaan ergens tegen de klok van 22u.

Wanneer het donker genoeg was, ging ik uitgebreid bepakt en gezakt met de hulp van mijn lieve familie richting Kaaien. Nu nog enkel de set-up en volgende instellingen: laag ISO getal, hoog diafragma getal en lange (tot extreem lange) sluitertijd. Mijn tripod is van zulk zwaar kaliber dat ik mijn afstandsbediening niet moest gebruiken. 

Het leukste stuk van deze opdracht was het afwachten wat voor effect al die bewegende lichtjes zouden geven nadat de ontspanner terug klikte. Elke foto kreeg een  'wauw' en 'ooh en aah' beoordeling ; dat was dus nét datgene waarvoor ik deze locatie uitkoos ! Hopelijk vindt mijn leraar dit ook van deze foto's !

* the fair is controversial because of the lawsuit against it by 6 people that live in this neighbourhood, to ban it after 45 (!!) years from it's current location. People in Antwerp can't believe only 6 people could convince a judge to move this fair with all it's traditions to another site.
